Holocene Part I 30x40
Holocene Part I 30x40
Inspired by Bon Iver’s Holocene, these two wooden canvases are Helena’s tribute to one of her favorite artists. She describes Justin Vernon’s voice as angelic and ghostly, stirring her soul with its profound melancholy. Occasionally experiencing olfactory-auditory synesthesia, Helena can “smell” his voice—a woody scent that led her to use wood as her canvas. Each painting features a dominant pattern representing the shifts in his vocals: one reflecting his mellow tones, and the other capturing his sharper, higher notes. The black marbled effect translates how Helena visualizes his voice, creating swirling textures that convey its layered depth. After seeing him live, she felt compelled to bring that transformative experience to life through art.
